11月1日下午，北京外国语大学陈章云教授应邀莅临川外学坛举行了“读书，科研与成才”主题座谈会。座谈会由姜孟教授主持。
陈章云教授来自于北京外国语大学，是中国著名期刊《外语教学与研究》的主编，是外语学界的知名学者，为外语研究、外语学术期刊的发展做出了不可磨灭的贡献。
陈章云教授围绕三个主题做了发言：学术现状、学者精神、研究生如何读书。陈教授指出，现在的学术状况可以说既让人欢喜又又让人悲伤。令人欢喜的是中国现在的学术在慢慢的进步成长，越来越靠近国际前沿；让人失望的是不少学者的论文都千篇一律，毫无创新。因此他建议所有研究生以及所有学者应该要广泛阅览书籍，提高学术涵养，积累知识，并从中发现新颖视角，产生创新想法。他认为学者始终要遵循“坚持创新”的学着精神，只有克服重重困境始终坚持学术研究，并提出创新想法，才能开创中国学术的新天地。与此同时，对于研究生如何读书的问题，他给予了我们宝贵的意见，他倡导所有的研究生要广泛阅览群书，尤其是一些名人的哲学著作如康德，亚里士多德等，从中你能找到语言的本质，同时建议大家要始终坚持对语言本质的追求。
在陈章云教授精彩而富有哲理的讲座结束之后，与会同学们踊跃提问，围绕“如何将理论和实践结合”、“如何把控学术跟风和追随学术前沿两者之间的度”、“如何平衡学术与技能之间的关系”等问题进行了深入探讨。

an informal talk onresearch, lifeandaccomplishmentby professor chen zhangyun
the rap session lasted for an hour, which is divided into three parts: brief introduction, speech part, and question & answer part. firstly, professor jiang meng from sichuan international study university (sisu) gave a brief introduction of professor chen zhangyun, who was the lecturer today. he said that professor chen came from beijing international study university, who was the editor of the famous periodicalforeign language teaching and research,and had made a lot contribution to foreign language research in china. after that, all the postgraduates attending this rap session gave thunderstorm applause to welcomeprofessor chento make a speech from three perspectives, the current research situation in china, the spirit of researcher, and how postgraduates can study well. professor zhang pointed out that the current research situation in china now not only made us happy but also depressed. he said that what makes us happy was that the research in china had improved tremendously and was getting closer to the academic frontier, while many theses in china were nearly the same without any novelty. therefore, professor chen advised all postgraduates should read widely and extensively which will help them to accumulate knowledge, then find a special perspective or novelty point from those numerous theories, and establish a great research. at the mean time, he said that all the scholars should obey the spirit of “persistence and innovation”. only when the scholars overcame the difficulties and still held on to the research study can a prospective future come. besides, professor chen gave some precious advice of how to study well to us. he suggested that postgraduates should read broadly, especially those authoritative works written by condor or aristotle, from which the essence of language will be found. his speech was ended with a thunderous applause.
then came the question and answer part. the first question was put forward by the first-year postgraduate yan yinghui. she asked how we could combine theory and practice perfectly when we needed to pay a great amount of time to read widely. professor chen told her that postgraduate was the first step of research. what students needed to do was reading widely and extensively to accumulate and consolidate knowledge, which can be used when students became a teacher or a scholar to improve teaching quality and make big effort to research career in china.
the second question came from a second-year postgraduate bao xianglin. she asked how to balance the difference between following the research trend and following the academic frontier. professor chen said the difference between them was whether there was novelty in your research. he also advised us that we can take some advantages from this excellent research, but did not copy the same opinions. meanwhile, he told that research needed persistence, and innovation was the most important.
the third question was from the third-year postgraduate wang yingying, how can we balance well between research and english skills? professor chen thought that this was a contradictory question because english skills would undoubtedly degenerate while we were concentrating on research. therefore, he advised that what we can do to improve english skills was to take some time and make some efforts to keep it, even to improve it.
after half an hour of marvelous answers coming from professor chen, professor jiang meng thanked him for his precious time and great advises given to postgraduates. at last, he made a conclusion with three classical and magnificent words from professor chen: 1. researching is good fortune; 2. language can reflect the mind of human being; 3. success is made by a large quantity of efforts.
